And this is what I'm working on now...

The book I just finished writing is The Jinx and The Pinkerton. It's about... well... a jinx and a Pinkerton Detective. Many years ago I had an idea for a novel exploring the stigma of divorce in the 1800’s. Today society barely notices. In fact, children who grow up with both of their natural parents are becoming the exception rather the norm. It was not so in 1858.

Enter Charisse Jones. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, the only child of indulgent parents. The little princess grew into a beautiful young woman. With her mother’s social connections and her father’s money, no one was surprised when she married Preston J. Collingsworth III, an up and coming young industrialist.

So what happened to destroy her happy-ever-after? At first I thought she had become horribly scarred in some way. A fire, perhaps, or some kind of accident. Whatever it was had to be bad enough to cause Preston to divorce her. Then one day, on my way through the living room, my attention was snagged by an ancient rerun of Bonanza. That particular episode centered around a jinx. It was like being struck by a bolt of creative lightning.

Charisse Jones is not horribly scarred, she’s a jinx- or so her ex-husband says. I even had a picture of her in mind. Kirstie Alley and the loveable out-of-her-element character she portrayed when she played the tooth fairy in Toothless. Add an ADHD seven-year old, a Welsh corgi, a canary that sings when it’s scared, the most optimistic hero to ever grace the halls of the Pinkerton Detective agency, as well as a cast of bad guys that would make a super hero nervous and you have the Jinx and the Pinkerton. I haven’t found a publisher for it yet, but I just started my search for one. In the meantime here’s a peek. Hope you enjoy reading the story as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Next is LOVE BYTES.
I got the idea for Love Bytes when I was writing WILD HONEY. Whiskey Jug Johnson and Brandy obviously had a story to tell.  I had a feeling from the first time I met her that the character Brandy was a time-traveler. This was supposed to be their story but from the start things went awry.
First of all Whiskey Jug refused the act the way he did in WILD HONEY. It wasn't like he had sort of changed, he was a completely different character. Then the year changed, and a tribe of Indians showed up where they had no business being. My heroine refused to go by Brandy saying that "Brandy and Whiskey Jug" sounded like they should be runnning a bar. I changed her name to Kenzie and  kept writing.
At page 100 or so I had a revelation. I only thought it was a time travel- in reality it is something quite different. So different, in fact, that it doesn't really fit into any catagory. It reads like  a historical or a time travel, but isn't. It's science fiction but doesn't read like it. My friend Deborah Bedford says I have created a whole new genre.
This book is finished and in the hands of my agent who is trying to sell it in NY. So far no luck, probably because it is so different. Most of the people who have read it say it is my best. I can't really say, it would be sort of like picking your favortie child. I love all my books for different reasons. What I can tell you is that this one was pure magic when I was writing it.
