Though Alexis and
Angelica Brady are identical twins, they are complete opposites. ThoughAngel is strong-willed and stubborn where Alexis is
meek and easily intimidated, the bond between them is unbreakable. So when Alexis begs for her sister’s help in
avoiding an arranged marriage, Angel reluctantly agrees to switch places, and drive the unwanted suitor away.
Disguised as the straitlaced Alexis, Angel is shocked to discover the prospective bridegroom is none other
than Ox Bruford, the only male who has ever touched her heart. A man is the last thing Angel wants in her life. Her independence
was too hard-won to give up for something as frivolous as love, but the more she tries to push Ox away, the mores she yearns
for his touch. Loving Ox would mean revealing her identity… and her heart.
Book II of the exciting Meadolark
Trilogy
Author's note: I have often found some of my most interesting characters
are my secondary characters. While I was writing MEADOWLARK two of them kept popping up in the story. A freighterer named
Ox Bruford and the madam of a casino/brothel known only as Angel seemed to be in as many scenes as my
hero and heroine. As the story progressed, an odd chemistry began to develop between Ox and Angel. It soon became apparent
to me that they were falling in love. In fact, I told my husband, I had the distinct impression that they were fooling around
behind my back!
A writer friend told me I should write that story since there was obviously one to tell. But how in the world could I write
an entire book with a hero named Ox and a heroine who was a prostitute? My friend smiled and said, "Are you sure she's a prostitute?
Maybe she's just a business woman."
It got me to thinking, and the story started to form in my mind. Angel, you see, has an identical twin named Alexis
and an overly-controlling father who sent her fleeing from home at an early age. Meanwhile, Ox, who is really James Oxford
Bruton Treenery III... Well, as you can see the story became quite complex with plot twists, mistaken identities and not one
but three romances! I had a lot of fun writing it and hope you
will have as much fun reading it.
Oh, by the way, an interesting secondary character popped into this book and became the hero of WILD HONEY, the third
book in the Meadowlark Trilogy. But that, as they say, is another story entirely!
